- A Coach took the party to Chatsworth where the highlights included a visit to the Farm Shop, the famous Christmas Fair and an incredible Nutcracker themed display in the house itself.

THE SUFFRAGETTE MOVEMENT

Rita Saville-Stones will be giving a talk on the Suffragette movement at 7:30 in Thorner Victory Hall.
This year’s AGM will be on Monday 16th May, at 7.00pm in theMethodist Meeting Room, Main Street, Thorner.This meeting is the business meeting to elect the committee and collect subscriptions now due for 2016, Members and prospective members are all welcome with tea, coffee and biscuits.
WALKING TOUR OF SHADWELL
A Walking Tour of Shadwell has been arranged for Thursday 19th May 2016 at 6.00pm with an optional meal at the Red Lion afterwards.This event is mainly open to members as numbers are limited.There is no charges for the walk but if you will be expected to pay for your meal at the Red Lion.
VICTORIAN SUPPER WALK
Leeds Civic Trust has agreed to arrange a Victorian & Edwardian Supper Walk of Leeds for us on Thursday 14th July 2016 @ 7.00pm. The price for this event has yet to be established.
MEMBERS SOCIAL EVENING
A very successful Social Evening was held on Wednesday 3rd February at the Beehive, Main Street, Thorner where members were treated to a two or three course meal and a drink at a special members discounted rate. The evening was rounded off by a topical quiz prepared by our own Richard Bould

WORLD WAR ONE – A FORGOTTEN HISTORY

World War I has been regarded for too long as an unmitigated disaster – an unnecessary war conducted by a bunch of brutal incompetent generals. Why was this, and why despite being lead by a bunch of ‘incompetents’ did the British army manage to achieve a quite stunning victory? Watch this space!!

AFTER THE WAR CAME VICTORY
an exhibition of photos, images and artefacts relating to Thorner during the First World War. There will also be a slideshow of images of Thorner during the years leading up to the conflict.This is part of a larger event taking place in the Victory Hall with paintings from the Thorner Art Group on the subject of WW1.The book recently produced by David Miller “After the War came Victory” will also be on sale.
